L2 on a Maytag dryer: low or no line voltage, possibly a home power supply problem.

What this code means
L2
Low or no line voltage: possible problem with the home power supply.
Quick summary
- Display: L2 (Low or No Line Voltage)
- Effect: the heater cannot turn on, but the dryer still runs
- Clear it: touch any pad
- Note: Maytag says this error will only show during the initial installation
Checks from the Maytag pages
Electric dryers run from two fuses or breakers: one circuit serves the motor that turns the drum, the other serves the heating element. If either has tripped the dryer may not heat. Make sure the cord is installed as the installation instructions show, with tight terminal screws and the dryer unplugged while you look.
Power cycle for a standard dryer
- Turn off the breaker(s) for 5 minutes.
- Turn them back on.
- Run a timed dry cycle.
- Keep an eye on the dryer for 5 minutes to see whether L2 returns.
Commercial dryer
The commercial dryer page gives a shorter reset, with the breaker off for 1 minute, and also says to try a Timed Dry heated cycle.
When the code stays
Call a qualified electrician to verify the electrical supply, since a 240-volt supply is required.
