PF on a Maytag dryer: a power failure interrupted the drying cycle.
Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so PF may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
What this code means
PF
Power failure interrupted the drying cycle.
PF in plain terms
Mains power dropped out partway through your load, and the dryer is telling you so. START (held down) resumes the load; POWER wipes the message.
Why Maytag says it can happen
- Line “noise” after an outage that the control read as the wrong voltage
- A button pushed too early, inside the 10-second wait when power returns
Resetting at the breaker
- Shut the dryer’s breaker for 5 minutes.
- Flip it back on.
- Keep watching for 5 minutes; PF should not reappear.
- Run the dryer to confirm all is normal.
Commercial-grade version: 1 minute off, 1 minute watching. If the unit went in within approximately 3 months, ask a qualified electrician to verify the electrical supply.
