Maytag front-load washers show F22 for a front door lock issue, with latch, cleaning and load checks to run first.
Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so F22 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
What this code means
F22
F22 means a front door lock issue on Maytag front-load washers.
What F22 means
The washer reports a front door lock issue. Maytag gives three things to look at before anything else.
- Door: shut it firmly. No clothing or shipping material should sit in the latch.
- Lock area: detergent and fabric softener can build up around the lock, and a soft damp cloth removes it.
- Load: items poking out beyond the door opening, or a basket too full, can stop the door closing. Take some laundry out and leave space for tumbling.
Codes to compare
Check F20 for the water inlet and F21 for drain trouble if the door seems fine.
