PF on a Maytag washer is the power failure message. Steps for restarting or clearing it differ by top load and front load.
Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so PF may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
What this code means
PF
PF indicates that a power failure interrupted the washer during operation.
PF means a power failure interrupted the cycle
A Maytag washer displays PF when the unit has experienced a power failure while it was operating. It applies to front load and top load washers.
Clearing it, by washer type
- Top load washer: touch and hold START and the cycle restarts. Pressing POWER instead clears the display.
- Front load washer: on some models, hitting Start finishes the cycle. Other models call for Cancel, then a fresh start of the washing machine from the beginning.
Codes that are easy to mix up
Looking at a different message? oL is about an overloaded washer, OFb is an unbalanced load, and Sd refers to excess suds.
