- Cooktop
A Maytag electric cooktop showing F2 needs time to cool. Pans come off, the surface cools, and a power reset follows if needed.
Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so F2 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
What this code means
F2
The cooktop is still too hot.
Understanding F2
The message goes away once the surface cooking area cools down. If it appears again when you switch the area on, the cooktop has not cooled enough yet.
Steps in order
- Lift the pans off the surface cooking area.
- Switch the cooking area off and wait for it to cool.
- For a stubborn code, turn the breaker(s) off for one minute, then back on.
- Watch the cooktop for one minute, then verify it operates.
