- Error code
- F8 E3
- Appliance
- Washer
Maytag washers report F8 E3 on an overflow, which Maytag links on front load models to excess suds from detergent or thick bleach.
Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so F8 E3 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
What this code means
F8 E3
An overflow condition from too much water or foam, or a water level above washer capacity.
Reset and monitor
Maytag lists a power reset for F8 E3 on both washer types. Disconnect the washer from power for 5 minutes, reconnect it, and see whether the code returns.
What the code means
An overflow. Front load models: too much water or foam is in the washer. Top load models: the water level is above the washer’s capacity.
Why foam builds up on front load washers
Maytag’s page asks three questions.
- Are you using HE detergent? Measure every time. Very soft water may need less detergent. Non-HE detergent or an excess amount causes suds, a reduced spin speed, very wet loads or error codes.
- Did you use “no splash” or “easy pour” liquid chlorine bleach? It has a thickening agent that can create suds, so switch to regular liquid bleach.
- Has the washer been cleaned lately? Run a “Clean Washer” cycle after the current one ends to clear excess detergent and build-up.
