Quick answer

FC E1 is a Wi-Fi connection error on Maytag over-the-range microwaves. Reset power, then the router.

Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so FC E1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

What this code means

FC E1

FC E1 is a connected-appliance Wi-Fi problem: the microwave could not connect to the router.

Why FC E1 appears

The microwave tried to join the router and failed. Maytag names these possible reasons: connection time out, poor signal strength, a failed router, the Wi-Fi module in the appliance, or associated wiring. Over-the-range models are covered.

Checklist

  1. Cut power at the breaker(s) for one (1) minute, restore it, and monitor the microwave for one (1) minute.
  2. Check that other Wi-Fi gear (a smartphone or tablet) works; bring it to where the microwave is installed.
  3. If it works, power the router off for 2 minutes and on again, and also disconnect the microwave for 2 minutes before reconnecting it.
  4. With a signal short of full bars: relocate the router, fit a compatible extender, or talk to your Internet Service Provider.
